In 2022 we visited Costa Rica for the first time as a family and fell in love. We had no idea that within 2 years we would be embarking on a journey to recreate that feeling for others. Inspired to bring our Haitian heritage to Costa Rica, the name ‘Lakay’ means ‘home’ in Haitian Creole. When we landed in Monteverde for the first time, with the cool mountain air and friendly people, we felt like we were home. This spurred the desire to create an enclave where others can experience the feeling of “Lakay”.
We at LM have dedicated our lives to helping others by providing medical training to locals in Haiti. In turn, these locals can provide medical assistance and training to the most impoverished parts of Haiti. We donate 2% of the income generated by Lakay Monteverde to the organization, Primary Care Haiti.
